Cali Charter from Universities for Nature

About the Cali Charter
The Cali Charter from Universities for Nature is a declaration uniting institutions worldwide in their commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Adopted on October 28, 2024, during the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16) held in Santiago de Cali, Colombia, the Charter calls for actionable steps to address environmental challenges through education, research, and collaboration.
Led by Red Universitaria de Campus Sostenibles (RUCAS) in partnership with the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) and Nature Positive Universities (NPU), the Charter provides a framework for universities to integrate biodiversity and sustainability into their operations, governance, and community engagement.
Key Principles of the Cali Charter
‣ Affirm the inherent value of biodiversity and its essential role in ecosystems.
‣ Reimagine university operations to support biodiversity and sustainability.
‣ Build strong partnerships with local communities, governments, and global networks.
