Our Mission
The mission of the ISCN-LATAM Chapter is to provide a regional network to support leading Latin American colleges and universities in the exchange of information, ideas, and best practices for achieving sustainable campus operations and integrating sustainability in research and teaching. The ISCN-LATAM Chapter also seeks to foster joint sustainability projects and initiatives among higher education institutions, while supporting engagement and outreach to the communities in which they serve.
Our Story
ISCN-LATAM is a key outcome of the 2019 ISCN São Paulo Conference, founded under the belief that higher education institutions play a key role in the social transformation toward a sustainable future. In 2021, a Steering Committee was assembled to lead the formation of the Chapter, initially comprised of six ISCN members representing universities from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, the USA, and Canada. Under the guidance of the Steering Committee, the ISCN-LATAM Strategic Plan was established in 2022, and a formal invitation was extended to other ISCN members in Latin America to join the Chapter. Today, the Chapter provides a regional structure to support leading Latin American colleges and universities accelerate their transformation towards sustainability, while leveraging the collective knowledge of the global ISCN community.
